Kids Room Wallpaper & Wall Murals

Kids Room Wallpaper and Wall Murals

Somewhere between the nursery and the teenage years, a child starts having opinions about their room. These murals are for that stage. Dinosaurs, pirate ships, world maps, rockets and basketball courts, sized to the wall you actually have.

Because they are removable, a phase can stay a phase. The dinosaur wall that was non-negotiable at four can come down at eight without a repaint, and the wall underneath is the wall you started with.

How to Choose Kids Room Wallpaper

The difference between a nursery wall and a kids room wall is who decides. By four or five most children have a firm opinion, and a mural is one of the few decorating choices you can hand over without regretting it, because it comes back off.

Pick the scene for the wall it will live on. A world map or a cityscape rewards a long wall you see on the way into the room. A dinosaur forest or a pirate island works better behind the bed, where it becomes the backdrop rather than competing with shelves and desks. Murals are made to measure from 4 to 14 feet wide at an 8 foot height.

If the room is shared or the child is between phases, the self-adhesive film is the sensible material. It is the one you can take down in an afternoon when the dinosaurs stop being the whole personality.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wallpaper is best for a kids room?

Something removable. Children change their minds faster than walls change, so a self-adhesive mural that lifts off cleanly is worth more than a permanent finish. Beyond that, pick the scene that suits the wall: wide views for long walls, single scenes for behind the bed.

Can wallpaper be removed when my child outgrows it?

The self-adhesive options are designed to come off without a repaint. Peel from a corner at a shallow angle and work slowly; the wall underneath should be the wall you started with.

How do I measure for a wall mural?

Measure the full width of the wall you want covered and round up to the next available size. Murals here come in 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 foot widths at an 8 foot height, and any excess trims off at the edges.

Is wallpaper hard to put up yourself?

The self-adhesive panels are a two person job for an hour, not a professional one. You work panel by panel from a plumb line, smoothing as you go. The paste-the-wall papers take more patience and are worth booking help for on a large wall.

Can I put a mural on a textured wall?

Lightly textured walls are fine. Heavy knockdown or orange peel finishes are not, because the adhesive only contacts the high points and edges lift over time. On a rough wall, framed prints or fabric decals are the better route.
