Toys for 5 Year Olds and Up

Big kids need toys that respect their skills. Electric ride-on cars, real games, and creative sets fill this collection for 5 year olds and up, with plenty of birthday gift material for parents and grandparents.

How to Choose Toys for a 5 Year Old and Up

By five, kids know exactly what they like, and their toys need to keep up. Faster electric ride-on cars, real games, science and craft kits, and sports gear all land well because they feel grown-up. The trick is picking versions built to survive daily, enthusiastic use.

This collection covers gifts for 5 year olds and big kids beyond: birthday-worthy ride-ons, skill-building sets, and outdoor toys that still fit when the next school year starts. Grandparents, this is the safest aisle in the store.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are good toys for a 5 year old?

Electric ride-on cars sized for bigger kids, games with real strategy, craft and science kits, and outdoor sports gear. Five year olds want toys that feel like a level up from preschool.

What is a good gift for a 5 year old who is hard to shop for?

Lean on experiences in toy form: a ride-on they can actually drive, a kit they can build and keep, or gear for whatever sport they currently love. Check each product page's age range to size it right.

Are 24V ride-on cars suitable for a 5 year old?

Generally yes. Higher-voltage ride-ons offer more power for bigger kids and rougher ground, while smaller 12V models suit paved driveways. Always match the weight limit and age range listed on the product page.

What do you buy a 5 year old who has everything?

Upgrade something they already love: a faster ride-on, a bigger building set, or real sports gear sized for them. One meaningful upgrade beats another novelty item.

Are trampolines safe for a 5 year old?

With a safety net, padded springs, and one jumper at a time, trampolines are a popular pick for this age. Follow each product's age and weight guidance and keep play supervised.

Toys for 5 Year Olds and Big Kids Who Outgrew the Toy Aisle

By five, kids can smell a baby toy from across the room. What they want is gear that feels earned: an electric ride-on they actually drive, a game with real strategy, a kit that builds into something they keep. This collection covers 5 year olds and the big-kid years after, with pieces built to match bigger bodies and bigger plans.

What Play Looks Like at Five and Up

School-age play splits into tracks. There is the maker track: building sets, craft benches, science kits, anything with steps and a result. There is the athlete track: scooters, sports gear, trampolines, backyard games. And there is the driver track, where 24V ride-ons with working features turn the yard into a proving ground. Most kids ride all three tracks in a single weekend, which is why variety in this collection runs wide.

Games with rules deserve a special mention. Five is when losing gracefully gets practiced, strategy gets discovered, and family game night becomes an actual event.

Gift Ideas for 5 Year Olds, Including the Hard-to-Shop-For Ones

For the kid who has everything, upgrade instead of adding: a faster ride-on than the toddler model they outgrew, a building set a hundred pieces bigger, real sports equipment in their size. Grandparents, this is the safest aisle in the store, and every product page lists the age range and weight limit so you can size with confidence.
