Which one, for which room?

For a newborn's room we would start small and soft: a decal set above the crib, clouds or watercolour stars or wildflowers, the kind of thing that stays calm at 3am. The pieces are cut individually, so you can start with five and add the rest when the wall feels ready.

The headboard decals earn their keep the day the crib becomes a toddler bed. One arch behind the bed, sized to a real toddler, twin or full mattress, and the bed stops being a piece of furniture and becomes the place. Rainbow, clouds and hot air balloons if you want quiet; dinosaurs, space and jungle if you have a climber.

The 3D stickers are for the age when a child wants a wall that does something. A hole broken open onto an aquarium, a race track, a dinosaur valley. It reads as real from the doorway and they keep going back to look. Eight sizes, so it can be a small surprise beside the bed or most of the wall.

And the murals are for when you are ready to give the whole wall away. Height is fixed at 96 inches, you choose the width, and it goes up in panels that overlap along a printed guide. Two people, about an hour. If you are not sure, the $8 sample panel is the best money you will spend this week.

Will it wreck the paint? The one rule.

On a sound, fully cured painted wall, no. It lifts off cleanly without taking the paint with it, which is the whole reason we went peel and stick instead of paste. The one rule is about your paint, not the sticker: give a freshly painted wall at least four weeks to cure before anything goes on it. Flaking or poorly bonded paint can lift with any adhesive product, ours included. If the wall has a history, order the $8 sample, press it into a corner behind the door and peel it off a week later. Then you know.

Why it looks right on any wall colour

The thing you cannot see in a product photo: the 3D stickers, decal sets and headboards are cut to the outline of the artwork. There is no white square around the design, no printed background. Only the artwork itself is printed, so your own wall colour carries on around and between the pieces, and the set looks painted straight onto the wall. Sage, cream, blue, blush, white; the same sticker sits differently on each and looks like it was made for it.
