Based on clinical research, Medela developed the breast pump Symphony® that mimics the natural sucking behaviour of infants at the mother’s breast to initiate milk production in the first few days after birth and to optimise milk output during established lactation.

The combination of double pumping and Medela's 2-Phase Expression™ technology provides the following benefits:

- Milk has higher energy content – especially beneficial for preterm infants
- Comfortable and efficient
- Convenient: Single or double pumping.
- Two separate, independent membrane units: Allows switching between single and double pumping by simply applying or removing the second collection kit to the breast.
- Let-down button: Moms can easily return to stimulation by pressing the let-down button.
- Initiate and maintain milk supply: If direct breastfeeding is not possible, as well as collect breast milk at work or during other absences from the baby.

The Symphony uses research-based programs designed to support you from the first days after birth through established lactation. When Initiate is followed by Maintain, moms have seen up to 50% more milk within the first two weeks.
This pump is designed to mimic your baby's natural nursing rhythm, starting with faster stimulation and moving to slower, deeper expression. It is a comfortable and efficient way to express more milk in less time.
Two separate membrane units let you switch between single and double pumping by simply adding or removing the second collection kit. A let-down button makes it easy to return to stimulation whenever you need to.
A hospital grade pump is a bigger investment, so it helps to match the pump to how often and how long you plan to use it.
- Consider your goal: If you are working to initiate or rebuild supply, a pump with dedicated initiation and maintenance programs offers more support than a standard personal pump.
- Frequency of use: Multi-user, hospital grade pumps are built for frequent, long-term pumping, which makes them ideal for preterm situations, low supply, or exclusive pumping.
- Reconditioned versus new: A reconditioned hospital grade pump gives you the same clinical performance at a lower price point. Check that it includes a warranty.
- Kit is sold separately: This pump requires a Medela Symphony double pumping kit to use. Order the kit at the same time so you are ready to pump on day one.
- Single or double: Double pumping saves time and helps maintain supply, so look for a pump that lets you do both easily.
Does this pump come with the pumping kit?
No. The Symphony requires a Medela Symphony double pumping kit for use, and it is sold separately. We recommend ordering the kit at the same time.
What does reconditioned or refurbished mean here?
It means the pump has been restored to reliable working condition and offered at a lower price than a new unit. It comes with a 3-year warranty.
Can more than one person use this pump?
Yes. It is a hospital grade, multi-user pump. The pumping kit is separate from the mechanism and protected by an overflow membrane, so each user needs her own kit.
Will this help if my milk supply is low?
