Type "silver nursing cups" into Amazon at two in the morning and you get a wall of little silver domes. They look almost the same. Some cost $30, some cost $75, and the listings use words like sterling, fine, tri-laminate and 925 grade as if everyone already knows what they mean.
We have been on both sides of that screen. We were the sore, tired moms scrolling, and since 2020 we have also been the people making silver cups and answering questions about them every day. This guide is what we wish someone had handed us: which cups on Amazon are worth your money, how to read a listing so you know what metal you are actually buying, and what the research really says.
The short answer
The best silver nursing cups on Amazon in 2026 are solid silver cups (925 sterling or 999 fine silver) in a size that covers your whole nipple without pressing on it, sold by a brand that states the metal, the size in inches or millimeters, and its FDA status in plain words. Solid sterling cups such as Moogco 925 and Silverette are the safest all-round choice. 999 fine silver cups from Moogco, Momcozy and Lansinoh are softer and purer but dent more easily. Tri-laminate cups are silver-plated over a copper core: they cost less and work for short-term use, but the silver surface can wear over time.
A note before you read: we make Moogco Silver Nursing Cups, one of the cups on this list. To keep this fair, every brand below is described from its own published claims, prices are the list price on each brand's own website in October 2026, and we point out where other cups do something better than ours. We did not lab-test other brands' cups, and we say so wherever it matters.
Key takeaways
- Metal matters more than brand. 925 sterling is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal, usually copper. 999 fine silver is 99.9% silver. Tri-laminate means a thin silver layer over a copper core.
- Size matters more than metal. A cup that touches or squeezes the nipple can rub damaged skin. Size names are not standard between brands, so compare inches or millimeters, not "Regular" or "Large".
- "FDA registered" is normal. "FDA approved" is a red flag. Silver nursing cups are low-risk devices that are registered and listed with the FDA, not approved by it.
- The evidence is promising but small. One randomized trial of 40 mothers (2015) and one comparison trial of 97 mothers (2025) found faster pain relief and less nipple damage with silver cups. The UK's NHS mentions silver nipple cups as an option between feeds.
- Cups support healing. They do not fix a shallow latch. If pain lasts more than about two weeks or comes with every feed, see a lactation consultant (IBCLC).

How we chose these cups
We started with every silver nursing cup we could find on Amazon.com in October 2026, then kept the ones whose seller clearly states the metal and offers more than a photo and a promise. For each cup we read the Amazon listing and the brand's own website, and we compared what they say about metal, sizes, FDA status, care and safety.
We also used two things most roundups do not have. The first is the published research on silver nursing cups, which is small but real (more on that below). The second is our own order data: over the last 12 months we looked at every silver cup order on moogcobaby.com to see which sizes moms actually choose and how often cups come back. If you want to hear from moms directly, our silver nursing cup reviews from real moms collect what buyers say in their own words.
What we did not do: we did not buy and lab-test other brands' cups, and we did not use Amazon star ratings, because ratings and review counts move every day and mix different sizes and versions together.
What "silver" really means on an Amazon listing
This is the single most useful thing to understand before you buy, because two cups that look identical in a photo can be made very differently.
| Listing says | What it is | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 925 / sterling silver | 92.5% silver, 7.5% other metal (usually copper), solid all the way through | Harder and more dent-resistant. Not for anyone with a copper allergy. |
| 950 silver | 95% silver, solid | Between sterling and fine silver. |
| 999 / fine / pure silver | 99.9% silver, solid | Softest and purest. Dents more easily if dropped. |
| Tri-laminate / silver-plated | A copper core with silver layers on the outside | Cheaper. The silver surface can wear thin with heavy use and scrubbing. |
Watch for wording that mixes these up. We have seen listings that say "925 grade tri-laminate", which does not describe one clear material: a cup is either solid 925 sterling or it is plated. If a listing is vague, ask the seller one question through Amazon's "Ask a question" button: "Is this cup solid silver all the way through, or silver-plated over another metal?" A good seller answers in a sentence.

How to check a silver nursing cup listing in 60 seconds
Before you add anything to your cart, run the listing through these six questions. If a listing fails two or more, keep scrolling.
- Is the metal a number? Look for 925, 950 or 999 in the title or bullets. "Premium silver" or "healing silver" alone tells you nothing.
- Does it say solid or plated? Solid means silver all the way through. Tri-laminate, layered or plated means a silver surface on another metal.
- Is the size given in inches or millimeters? "Regular" from one brand can be "Small" from another. A real measurement lets you compare.
- How does it describe the FDA? "FDA registered" or "Class I medical device" is normal and correct. "FDA approved" is not how these devices are regulated.
- Are there care instructions? A real brand tells you how to clean the cups and remove tarnish. No instructions often means no support.
- Who is the seller? Check "Sold by" under the Buy button. Buying from the brand's own storefront makes questions, replacements and returns much simpler.
Our picks, one by one
1. Moogco 925 Sterling Silver Nursing Cups: best overall value in solid silver
This is our own cup, so read this one with that in mind. It is solid 925 sterling, made in two sizes, Regular (L) and X-Large, with an optional carrying case. It is the cup most moms start with because it is solid silver at a price well below the Italian original.
Choose it if: you want solid sterling and need either a standard or a larger size. Skip it if: you have a copper allergy (choose 999 instead) or need a very small cup.

2. Moogco 999 Fine Silver Nursing Cups: purest silver at a mid price
The 999 line is 99.9% fine silver, with no copper in the metal. Fine silver is softer and slightly more flexible, which some moms find more comfortable against very tender skin. The trade-off is that soft metal dents more easily if it is dropped on a hard floor, so a case is worth it.
Choose it if: you want the purest metal or are sensitive to copper. Skip it if: you need an X-Large size, which this line does not offer yet.

3. Silverette: the original, Italian-made sterling cup
Silverette started the category and is still the name most moms hear first. The cups are solid 925 sterling, handmade in Italy, FDA-registered, and now come in three sizes (S, M and L). Silverette also sells optional silicone rings that help the cup sit still and stop leaks. The brand notes the cups suit most women except those with a copper sensitivity.
Choose it if: you want the original and its three-size range. Good to know: Silverette renamed its sizes in 2026. The old "Regular" is now S and the old "XL" is now M, so check which name a listing uses. Our honest Silverette alternative comparison matches each Silverette size to the nearest Moogco size.
4. Momcozy: widest size range
Momcozy's cups are 999 silver and nickel-free, and the brand publishes real measurements: Regular 1.77 in, XL 2.16 in and XXL 2.56 in. That XXL size is larger than most brands make. There are perforated and hole-free versions. Momcozy itself notes that the cups can dent if dropped, which is true of all fine silver.
Choose it if: you need a very large cup or like knowing the exact diameter before you buy.
5. Lansinoh: recycled fine silver from a breastfeeding brand
Lansinoh's cups are 999 silver made from 100% recycled silver, nickel-free, and described as a Class I medical device. Lansinoh gives some of the clearest safety guidance in the category: do not use them with a known silver or copper allergy, do not combine them with nipple creams, and talk to a professional if you still need them after three weeks. It is the most expensive cup on this list.
Choose it if: recycled metal matters to you and you are comfortable paying more.
6. Willow: one size, case included
Willow's cups are 950 silver (95% silver), nickel-free, sold in one size of about 4.5 cm across with a carrying case in the box. One size keeps the choice simple, but it also means there is nothing to switch to if the fit is wrong.
Choose it if: you have average-sized nipples and want an all-in-one box.
7. Moogco Tri-Laminate: lowest price, short-term use
Our Tri-Laminate cups have a copper core with a 999 silver plating, in Regular (L) and X-Large. They are a fair choice if you want to try silver cups for the first weeks without paying for solid silver. Be gentle with them: scrub with a soft cloth only, because abrasive cleaning wears plating faster than solid metal.
Choose it if: price is the priority or you expect to use cups for only a few weeks. Skip it if: you have a copper allergy or want cups to pass on to a sister or friend later.
8. Koala Babycare: budget plated with a warranty
Koala's Amazon cups are tri-laminate: pure silver outer layers around a copper core, nickel-free, in Regular and Maxi sizes, with a storage bag and a 24-month warranty. The brand also sells a solid sterling version. In October 2026 the cups were listed as sold out on Koala's own site, so check stock and the seller name on Amazon.
Sizing: the part most listings get wrong
If we could ask you to read only one section, it would be this one. In our experience, most "these cups did not work" stories are really "these cups did not fit" stories.
A silver cup should sit over your nipple like a small roof. The nipple should not touch the inside of the dome, and the rim should rest flat on the skin around it without digging in. If the nipple presses against the silver, or the rim leaves a deep ring, the cup is too small. If the cup slides around and leaks milk, it may be too big, or it may simply need a better-fitting bra or a silicone ring.
Size names do not match between brands. Silverette uses S, M and L. Momcozy uses Regular, XL and XXL with diameters. Moogco uses Regular (L) and X-Large. So compare measurements, and remember that nipples are often swollen in the first week and settle later.
Here is something we see in our own orders: in the last 12 months, 36% of sized silver cup orders on moogcobaby.com (34 of 95) were for X-Large. More than one in three moms needed the larger cup. If you are between sizes, or your nipples are swollen in the early days, the larger size is usually the safer choice. Our silver nursing cup size guide walks you through measuring.

See Moogco silver cupsDo silver nursing cups actually work? What the research says
Silver has been used on skin for a very long time, and it has known antimicrobial properties. But "silver is antimicrobial" is not the same as "silver nursing cups heal nipples", so here is what has actually been studied.
- Marrazzu and colleagues, Breastfeeding Medicine, 2015. A randomized trial in Italy with 40 breastfeeding mothers with nipple fissures: 20 used a silver cap and 20 received standard care. There was no difference on day 2, but pain resolved significantly faster in the silver group by day 7 and day 15, and no local or general reactions were reported.
- Nakamura and colleagues, Journal of Human Lactation, 2025. A non-randomized trial in Japan compared 47 mothers who used silver nipple protectors with 50 mothers from an earlier group who did not. The silver group had less severe nipple trauma and lower pain on day 4 after birth, with no safety problems.
- Pilloni and colleagues, Open Journal of Nursing, 2023. An observational study of 187 mothers using silver caps. Almost all reported no pain at 120 days, but there was no comparison group, so this study cannot show the cups caused the improvement.
- The NHS (UK) suggests dabbing a little expressed milk on cracked nipples after feeds or using silver nipple cups between feeds.
So the honest summary is this: the studies are small, and some tested devices that are not the exact cups sold on Amazon. But every study so far points the same way, faster pain relief and no safety signals, and a national health service names silver cups as an option. That is a reasonable basis for trying them, alongside getting the latch checked.

FDA registered vs FDA approved: what the label should say
Silver nursing cups are treated as low-risk (Class I) medical devices in the United States. Low-risk devices are registered and listed with the FDA. They do not go through FDA approval, which is the process for higher-risk products. That is why the honest wording is "FDA registered" or "Class I medical device", which is what Moogco, Silverette, Lansinoh and Koala use. A listing that says "FDA approved" is either confused or overselling, and either way it is a reason to look more closely. Our article are silver nursing cups FDA approved? explains this in more detail.
Who should skip silver nursing cups, and when to get help
- Silver or copper allergy. Do not use silver cups with a known silver allergy. 925 sterling and tri-laminate cups contain copper, so if copper is the problem, choose solid 999 fine silver or talk to your doctor first.
- Do not mix with creams. Most brands advise against using nipple creams or lanolin under silver cups. A little expressed breast milk is fine.
- Thrush. Burning, shooting or itchy nipple pain, or shiny pink skin, can be thrush. That needs treatment from your doctor, and La Leche League notes that lanolin and gel pads are not recommended with thrush.
- Pain that is not getting better. Some tenderness in the first days is common. Pain that lasts beyond about two weeks, pain at every feed, or nipples that look flattened or white after feeding usually point to latch or tongue-tie. An IBCLC can help.
- Little hands. Cups are small. Store them in their case away from babies and toddlers.
- Heat. Do not heat cups in a microwave or near a heat source.
How to clean silver nursing cups so they keep working
After each wear, rinse the cups in warm water with a drop of mild soap and dry them fully. Once tarnish shows, a paste of baking soda and water on a soft cloth brings the shine back. Avoid the dishwasher, bleach, sterilizing tablets and abrasive scrubbers, which are especially hard on plated cups. Tarnish is just silver reacting with sulfur in the air and is not harmful, but cleaning it off keeps the silver surface in contact with your skin. Our complete care guide has step-by-step photos.
Buying on Amazon vs buying from the brand
Amazon is convenient, and fast delivery matters when you are sore today. A few things are worth checking first. Silver cups are a personal care item, so many sellers will not take opened cups back, and return rules differ between "Sold by Amazon", the brand's own storefront and third-party sellers. Sizing exchanges are easier when you buy from the brand, because the brand knows its own size chart. And if a price looks far below every other solid silver cup, check whether the listing says solid or plated before you assume it is a bargain.
From our side, the numbers are reassuring: in the last 12 months, fewer than 4 in 100 silver cup order lines on moogcobaby.com were refunded (4 of 112). When a cup does not work out, it is almost always size, which is why we would rather help you choose the right size before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best silver nursing cups on Amazon?
The best silver nursing cups on Amazon are solid 925 sterling or 999 fine silver cups in a size that covers the whole nipple without touching it. In 2026, strong choices include Moogco 925 (best value in solid sterling), Silverette (the Italian original, sizes S to L), Momcozy 999 (widest size range up to XXL) and Lansinoh 999 (recycled silver).
Are the silver nursing cups on Amazon real silver?
Many are solid silver, but not all. Cups labeled 925, 950 or 999 solid silver are silver all the way through. Cups labeled tri-laminate, layered or plated have a thin silver surface over a copper core. Check the listing for a metal number and the word solid or plated.
Is 925 or 999 silver better for nursing cups?
Both work. 999 fine silver is purer and contains no copper, which suits copper-sensitive moms, but it is softer and dents more easily. 925 sterling is harder and more durable but contains about 7.5% copper.
Do silver nursing cups really work?
Small studies suggest they help. A 2015 randomized trial of 40 mothers found faster relief of nipple pain by day 7 with a silver cap, and a 2025 trial of 97 mothers found less nipple trauma and lower pain on day 4. The NHS lists silver nipple cups as an option between feeds.
Are silver nursing cups FDA approved?
No, and they do not need to be. Silver nursing cups are low-risk Class I devices that are registered and listed with the FDA rather than approved. "FDA registered" is the correct wording.
Are cheap tri-laminate silver cups worth it?
They can be, for short-term use. Tri-laminate cups cost less because they are silver-plated over copper. The silver surface can wear with heavy use and scrubbing, and they are not suitable for anyone with a copper allergy.
How do I know what size silver nursing cup to buy?
Your nipple should not touch the inside of the cup, and the rim should rest flat without digging in. Compare sizes in inches or millimeters because size names differ between brands. On moogcobaby.com, 36% of sized orders in the last year were X-Large, so if you are between sizes, size up.
Can I use nipple cream with silver nursing cups?
Most brands advise against it, because creams can stop the silver from resting directly on the skin. A little expressed breast milk under the cup is fine.
How long should I wear silver nursing cups?
Wear them between feeds for as long as they feel comfortable, removing them to nurse or pump. Many moms use them for the first few weeks. If you still need them after about three weeks, or pain is not improving, see a lactation consultant.
Can I wear silver nursing cups while sleeping?
Many moms do, with a snug nursing bra or sleep bra to hold them in place. If you sleep on your stomach or the cups move a lot at night, take them off and put them in their case.
